The Press and the Public Project produced the first nationally televised press criticism show, the Emmy award-winning Inside Story.
Now led by Producer Libby Handros and Director John Kirby, the production company has produced a wide range of award-winning film, television and web-based documentary programming. Their films have been shown theatrically in venues all over the world, including Lincoln Center, BAM, the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles and the US Consulate in Paris.
They have won numerous awards and their films have screened at festivals and theaters from Tribeca to Amsterdam, Warsaw to Aberdeen. Critics and audiences have called Kirby and Handros' films "Divine madness" (Montreal Mirror), "Astonishing" (London Observer), "Rollicking" (Boston Phoenix) “Sober, lighthearted, and even wacky” (Associated Press) and heralded by luminaries from Studs Terkel to Bill Moyers. Their work has aired on major networks around the globe, including HBO, PBS, VH-1, BBC, Sundance Channel, Discovery and ESPN.
